Responsibilities
Location:Â London, OntarioÂ
Job Summary: The Queer Intersections (QX) Board Member will provide support and strategic direction to Queer Intersections while advocating for the rights and needs of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. This role involves contributing to program/event development, community engagement, and ensuring that the organization’s initiatives are inclusive and equitable.Â
Key Responsibilities:Â
Advocacy:Â Represent and advocate for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community within the board and the wider community, ensuring their voices are heard in organizational decisions.Â
Strategic Planning: Collaborate with fellow board members to develop and implement strategic goals and objectives that support 2SLGBTQIA+ initiatives.Â
Program and Event Facilitation: Ability to supervise or facilitate events/programs as neededÂ
Community Engagement:Â Foster relationships with 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations, community leaders, and stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and support networks.Â
Education and Awareness:Â Promote awareness and understanding of 2SLGBTQIA+ issues within the organization and the community through workshops, training, and events.Â
Financial Oversight: Participate in budget discussions and ensure that resources are allocated to support 2SLGBTQIA+ programs and initiatives.Â
Governance: Attend regular board meetings, contribute to discussions, and participate in committees as needed to fulfill the organization’s mission.Â
Based on the committee a board member decides to join.Â
Program and Event Development:Â Assist in creating programs and events that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization and its programs.Â

Fundraising and Grant Writing: Ability or willingness to learn about finding and writing grants. In addition, to developing and implementing sustainable income streams. Â
Qualifications:Â
Passion for and commitment to advancing the rights and well-being of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.Â
Experience in nonprofit governance or board service is preferred but not required.Â
Strong understanding of issues facing the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, including intersectionality.Â
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Â
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals.Â
Commitment to inclusivity and equity in all organizational practices.Â
Vulnerable Sectors check required. QX will cover costs if needed.
Time Commitment: 3-year term. Approximately 2-10 hours a week. QX is an operational board which means that all board members are expected to actively participate in maintaining and growing QX’s mission. Time commitment varies and fluctuates depending on which committees the board member has joined.Â
